Working Group on Jewish Futurismn nWhile a focus on “the Jewish future” is the hallmark of our community, few visionaries are willing to encounter how future technologies are already beginning to affect the shape of Jewish life and their implications for Jewish continuity. This lab-meeting style group will meet 6 times a semester to discuss where technology, science, and Judaism intersect, drawing on halakhic literature, science fiction, philosophy, and presentations from experts who are working onthese issues. We will explore questions such as: can an AI be Jewish? Whatis Judaism after Earth? How does human longevity impact Jewish practice? Participants will also have the opportunity to present on their own studies and research, and how they relate to Jewish Futurism. Open to undergraduate students and graduate students by application only; applications accepted on a rolling basis. Meets at CMU in the CUC on 9/26, 10/10, 10/17, 10/31, 11/7, and 11/28. Students accepted to the working group will choose which topics are addressed.n n nhttps://hilleljuc.wufoo.com/forms/working-group-on-jewish-futurism/
