CMU-Hillel Networking Meal Cards

Relationship-based engagement is critical to our work at Hillel where:

• We envision a world where every Jewish student is inspired to make an enduring commitment to their Jewish identity, to Jewish Life, to Jewish Learning, and to Israel.

Towards this mission and vision, Hillel seeks to engage every Jewish student in a meaningful Jewish experience, including authentic support by Hillel staff and authentic peer-networking by Hillel student leaders.

In terms of using a CMU-Hillel Networking Meal Card, each expense/transaction must meet the following requirements:

1. Be for the purpose of Hillel Networking – meaning any meaningful interaction/gathering/event related to CMU Jewish Life or in support of a CMU student’s Jewish identity
2. Be recorded into Hillel’s Engagement CRM – Students without access to the CRM must fill out THIS FORM! (tinyurl.com/CMUEngage22)
3. Be hosted by Hillel Staff or Hillel-involved student leadership – who must ensure the interaction/gathering/event (a) is Jewishly content-rich, (b) can, as appropriate, share relevant opportunities/supports/communities provided by Hillel, and (c) is a safe, supportive, inclusive, comfortable, and meaningful experience.
4. Be in compliance with the below COVID-19 Policy and Kashrut/Kosher & Beverage/Food Policy

All instances of Hillel Networking where a CMU-Hillel Networking Card is used are subject to:

• CMU’s Student COVID-19 Policies
• Hillel JUC’s COVID-19 Policies

With our Jewish values in mind, as of the first day of the Fall 2021 Semester, our policy currently requires all participants must be:

• Fully vaccinated
• Properly wearing a mask at all times (except when consuming beverages/food at appropriate distances)
• Not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or by aware of any potential exposure to COVID-19
• Outdoors, if at all possible
• In compliance of capacity, spacing, masking, hygiene, quarantining, testing, and other mitigation/prevention requirements

With our Jewish values in mind, each expense/transaction on a CMU-Hillel Networking Meal Card must meet the following requirements:

• Non-Kosher meats cannot be purchased
• A non-alcoholic beverage (i.e. coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc.) or a nosh (yiddish|’light snack’, i.e. a pastry, frozen yogurt, etc.) per participant, that is vegetarian/dairy/parve (does not include non-kosher meats) can be purchased
• Students – Reach out to Hillel Staff about approving increased funding for larger gatherings/events

When paying with a typical CMU ID card that does not have the traditional “blocks” meal plan, dining vendors will attempt to use DineXtra points (their dollar-for-dollar dining ‘cash’ equivalent) as the default payment option used by dining services. The CMU-Hillel Networking Meal Cards, however, operate on a “special” CMU-Hillel Dining Plan set-up like the meal cards provided by the Office of Residential Education (ResEd) to their Resident Assistants (RAs). Therefore, to find the funds available on a card, a card user must specify to the dining vendor that the card uses a “special dining” RA-like meal plan account.

NOTE: We are aware of an issue with using the magnetic stripe to swipe a Card for payment. If the issue occurs, please request the dining vendor manually enter your Card ID#.

To refill a CMU-Hillel Networking Meal Card:

• Send an email to [email protected] with the Card# (600-838-###) on the front & Card ID (printed on a label) on the back
• Hillel Staff may conduct an audit of the card’s transaction against logged records in Hillel’s Engagement CRM
• Hillel Staff will then be in-touch with any updates on approving an increase of funds and the process through Dining Services of adding additional funds
